FEATURED TREES

Fruit Trees That Handle Los Angeles County Microclimates

LA County runs from foggy beach towns to hot valley floors.

These picks cover that range, with named varieties we grow in Vista.

Availability changes often. Check our inventory or call 760-434-5085 before you make the drive.

AVOCADO

Mexicola and Fuerte for Valley Yards

Valley nights get colder than the coast, so variety choice matters. Mexicola is known for cold tolerance and small, nutty black fruit with edible skin. Fuerte has a long frost-survivor history dating back to a 1913 California freeze.

In our yard: Mexicola, Fuerte, Hass, Reed, Lamb Hass

DRAGON FRUIT

Pink, White and Guatemala Red Dragon Fruit

Dragon fruit is a climbing cactus that thrives in LA heat and needs little water. Train it up a post or wall for a dramatic, space-saving harvest. Guatemala Red has magenta flesh. White types are milder and very refreshing.

In our yard: Pink, Guatemala Red, White

GUAVA

Ruby-X, Mexican Cream and Pineapple Guava

We grow about a dozen guava varieties, from tropical types to strawberry guava. Mexican Cream is small, sweet and aromatic. Ruby-X has deep pink flesh. Pineapple guava, or feijoa, shrugs off wind and makes a fine edible hedge.

In our yard: Ruby-X, Ruby Pink, Mexican Cream, Pineapple/Feijoa, Red Strawberry, Giant Vietnamese, Hawaiian White

MANDARINS

Tango, W. Murcott and Satsuma Mandarins

Mandarins are the easiest citrus for families across the county. Tango is nearly seedless and peels in seconds. Satsuma ripens early in the season. Kishu is new to our yard and makes tiny, sweet, seedless fruit.

In our yard: Tango, W. Murcott, Satsuma, Tahoe Gold, Dekopon, Kishu, Minneola Tangelo

MULTI-GRAFT

3-in-1 and 4-in-1 Stone Fruit Trees

Small LA lots rarely fit four separate fruit trees. Our 4-in-1 Fruit Salad tree carries several stone fruits on one trunk. The 3-in-1 Warm Climate peach is grafted for low-chill winters like ours.

In our yard: 4-in-1 Fruit Salad, 3-in-1 Warm Climate, 2-in-1 Nectar Babe/Pix Zee

PERSIMMON

Jiro Fuyu and Hachiya Persimmons

Persimmons turn brilliant orange in fall, so they earn their spot twice. Jiro Fuyu is eaten crisp like an apple. Hachiya is soft, jelly-sweet and great for baking. Both handle inland heat from Pasadena to the Santa Clarita Valley.

In our yard: Jiro Fuyu, Hachiya
