Why Bel Air Estates Make the Drive

Mature trees give a new or renovated estate instant scale and privacy.

PROVEN

FEATURED TREES

Rare and Specimen Fruit Trees for Bel Air Estates

Bel Air properties have the room for trees most gardens cannot hold.

These are the rare tropicals and specimen-size trees we grow for estate landscapes.

Availability changes often. Check our inventory or call 760-434-5085 before you make the drive.

LYCHEE

Brewster, Mauritius, Kaimana and Hak Ip Lychee

Lychee forms a dense, rounded canopy with glossy leaves all year. We stock four named lychee varieties, so you can compare fruit size and flavor. Hak Ip is prized for small seeds and crisp, sweet flesh.

In our yard: Brewster, Mauritius, Kaimana, Hak Ip

LONGAN

Kohala and Diamond River Longan

Longan is lychee's close cousin, with smaller tan fruit and a honey-like taste. Kohala is our main variety and is usually in stock. Diamond River is sweet and productive. Call to check availability.

In our yard: Kohala, Diamond River

SAPOTE

White, Black and Yellow Sapote

Sapotes grow into large, handsome shade trees on a hillside lot. White sapote tastes like vanilla custard. Black sapote is called chocolate pudding fruit. Canistel, or yellow sapote, has rich, egg-yolk texture.

In our yard: White/Sue Belle, Black, Chico/Sapodilla, Yellow/Canistel

MACADAMIA

Beaumont Macadamia Nut Trees

A macadamia tree adds a homegrown nut harvest to a Bel Air orchard. Beaumont has pink spring flower sprays and a dense, ornamental form. It works well as a screen along a property line.

In our yard: Beaumont

JABUTICABA

Jabuticaba, the Tree That Fruits on Its Trunk

Jabuticaba grows grape-like fruit straight off its bark and branches. It is slow growing, which makes our mature specimens especially valuable. The peeling bark looks sculptural even out of season.

In our yard: Jabuticaba (mature specimens)

POMELO

Thai and Chandler Pomelo

Pomelo is the largest citrus fruit, often bigger than a cantaloupe. Chandler has pink flesh and mild sweetness. Thai pomelo comes in large sizes. Both make bold focal trees beside a pool terrace.

In our yard: Thai (large sizes, limited), Chandler (limited)

SIZES & BUYING

Buying Specimen Trees for a Bel Air Property

Large trees take more planning to move up a canyon road. Here is how we help.

SPECIMEN SIZES

Box Trees and 100 Gallon Specimens

For estate work, clients often choose 24 inch boxes, 30 inch boxes or 65 gallon pots.

We also have some very large specimens in 100 gallon containers.

MATURE STOCK

Trees Up to 40 Years Old

Some of our trees have grown in our yard for decades.

Many are already bearing fruit, so the harvest starts the first season they are planted.

CREWS

Send Your Landscape Contractor

We do not ship, but we regularly load contractor trucks and trailers.

Your crew secures the load for the climb up Stone Canyon or Bellagio Road.

SELECTION

Choose Your Tree in Person

We recommend every client walk the rows and pick their own tree.

Open Tuesday through Saturday 9 to 4, and Sunday 10 to 4. No appointment needed.

OUR FRUIT TREES

Every Fruit Tree We Grow for Bel Air Estates

Bel Air projects often pair large citrus allées with a few rare tropical showpieces.

Each variety below links to available sizes for planning.

Tropical & Subtropical Fruit Trees

Sunny ridgelines suit mango, macadamia and sapote. Plant them where cold air drains away.

Classic & Stone Fruit Trees

Canyon floors grow excellent persimmon and pomegranate for autumn color.

Citrus Trees

Lemons and mandarins in matched containers frame a motor court beautifully.

Berries & Vines

Grapes trained on an arbor create a Mediterranean feel.

Flowering Trees

Champaca and plumeria scent a terrace on summer evenings.

Spices, Palms & More

Palms and bamboo add screening along property lines.

GROWING GUIDE

Fruit Trees That Thrive in Bel Air

Bel Air’s canyons and ridges create several small climates on one property.

SUNNY TERRACES

Upper Slopes & Ridgelines

Full sun and good drainage, with fewer cold pockets.

Good picks: avocado, mango, citrus, macadamia and sapote.

CANYON FLOORS

Stone Canyon & Lower Lots

Cooler air settles here on winter nights.

Good picks: persimmon, pomegranate, fig, loquat and citrus.

FORMAL GARDENS

Courtyards & Motor Courts

Large containers and planters add structure near the house.

Good picks: citrus, kumquat, fig and jaboticaba.

BEL AIR ESTATES

Specimen Trees for Stone Canyon and the Bel-Air Country Club Area

Estates along Stone Canyon Road and Bellagio Road often have room for true specimen trees.

A boxed lychee or white sapote can anchor a motor court or pool terrace.

Near the Hotel Bel-Air, shaded canyon gardens stay cooler and moister.

Longan, jaboticaba and macadamia appreciate that steady air and protection.

Can we tag trees and pick them up later?

Yes, in many cases. Ask us about holding tagged trees with full payment.
